Principle:
Ultrasonic Testing (UT) uses high-frequency sound waves to detect internal flaws in materials. A transducer generates ultrasonic waves that travel through the material and reflect back when they encounter a discontinuity. The reflected signals are analyzed to determine defect size, location, and type.
Applications:
- Inspection of welds, castings, and forgings
- Thickness measurement of materials (corrosion assessment)
- Detection of cracks, porosity, and inclusions in metals and composites
- Used in industries such as power generation, oil & gas, aerospace, and construction
