Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)

Principle:

Magnetic Particle Testing (MT) is used to detect surface and near-surface discontinuities in ferromagnetic materials. The test piece is magnetized, and iron particles are applied. If a defect is present, it distorts the magnetic field, attracting the particles and revealing the flaw.

Applications:

  • Inspection of welds, castings, and machined components
  • Crack detection in pipelines, pressure vessels, and structural steel
  • Commonly used in industries like manufacturing, aerospace, and automotive
