Elotest HST Heavy Plate Hard Spot Tester

Elotest HST Heavy Plate Hard Spot Tester

During steel production occasionally local hardening may occur on the surfaces of semi-finished products (e.g. heavy plates). In the further processing and later use of the finished products (e.g. longitudinal seam-welded tubes), this hardening (also called as “hard spots”) can cause problems or lead to component failure. Thus relevant specifications increasingly require an in-process hardness testing of surfaces. In the past hardness measurements had been performed only on a sample basis, commonly using “destructive” methods combined with lab analysis. Due to the increasing call for an extensive surface testing of semi-finished products, Rohmann GmbH developed a new test method (EDDY+), which had been applied for a patent.

Features:

Newly Developed Inspection Method
  • Eddy+: evaluation of the eddy current response to a magnetizing pulse
  • easy signal interpretation concerning mechanical hardness values
  • low susceptibility to disturbing effects (e.g. mill scale)
  • suitable for high test speeds (up to 1 m/s)

Modular Design
  • inspection trolley for the manual testing of large semi-finished flat products such as heavy plates
  • integrated battery pack
  • array of Eddy+ special probes, manual lifting and lowering
  • 19″ eddy current instrument (e.g. PL600)
  • external PC with ScanAlyzer software for data recording, evaluation and documentation (option)
  • encoder for way-based data recording (option)
  • visualization of test results by means of a 3-colour signal column (“traffic lights”)

Suitable for Rough Environment
  • robust design (welded stainless steel frame)
  • inspection time up to 5 hours (quick-change battery pack, quickly rechargeable battery)
  • easy maneuvering (3-wheel carriage)
