PRE QUALIFICATION RECORD (PQR)

Overview

PRE QUALIFICATION RECORD (PQR) is typically part of the process in welding and NDT to ensure that welding procedures and personnel meet the requirements for a specific project or code. A PQR is a document that verifies a welding procedure’s performance under specific conditions. In the context of NDT, a PQR can be related to validating the testing methods and ensuring that the procedures used for inspection meet the necessary standards.

  • Importance:
PQRs are crucial for ensuring the quality and reliability of welds, especially in critical applications like pressure vessels, piping, and other structures where weld integrity is paramount.

  • Qualification:
PQRs are typically required to be approved by a qualified welding engineer or other relevant authority.

  • Testing:
The tests performed on the test weld are designed to evaluate the weld’s strength, ductility, and resistance to cracking and other defects.
